Guest Lectures (Inorganic Chemistry meets Cultural Studies of East and South Asia)

An international and interdisciplinary evening

In the SCIAS guest lectures, the visiting professors and their hosts of the university introduce themselves and their research areas in the lecture hall of the Welz house to fellow guests, hosts and an interested audience of the university and the city in short 20-minute keynote lectures. Afterwards, all the participants have the opportunity to discuss and learn more about the respective projects and research areas to promote international and interdisciplinary exchange, dialogue and cooperation.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Gladys Pak Lei Chong (Baptist University, Hong Kong) : BAT Celebrity Tech Entrepreneurs and Chinese Masculinities in the Era of Global Digital Economy
  • Prof. Dr. Shubhankar Kumar Bose (Jain University, India): Boron Element in Catalysis

Dr. Gladys Pak Lei Chong is Associate Professor of the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing at Hong Kong Baptist University. She is the author of Chinese Subjectivities and the Beijing Olympics (2017), co-editor of Trans-Asia as Method: Theory and Practices (2020) and Critiquing Communication Innovation (2022). Her  journal articles are in Inter-Asia Cultural Studies, Global Media & China, Visual Studies, Science, Technology and Society, The Information Society, Chinese Journal of Communication. Her research on youth aspirations, and technology, security, and risk have been funded by the Hong Kong Research Grant Council.

Prof. Dr. Shubhankar Kumar Bose is an Associate Professor at Jain University in Bangalore, India. He is staying in Welz-Haus for three months as a Humboldt Fellow sponsored by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, hosted by Prof. Dr. Todd B. Marder from the Institut für Anorganische Chemie, Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. His research interests focus on main group and organometallic chemistry, catalysis, and synthesis as well as structure and bonding of transition metal-main group compounds.

The presentation and the following discussion are open to the public and will be held in English. All interested parties are welcome!
