DigiPhil

The room equipment and technology concept of the “Digital Media in the Humanities and Social Sciences” network follow the guideline of designing teaching to be consistently interactive and in a variety of room layouts. This includes largely dispensing with frontal instruction. Spaces in the room are not only designed physically via the seating group design, but are also created via media that open up spaces beyond the physical space (in VR and AR).

The DigiPhil offers 20 regular seats and two sofas. The room is equipped with puzzle-shaped tables, which can each seat three people when arranged as a single table. However, the tables can also be arranged to form larger work areas. In total, there are ten tables at sitting height and five tables at standing height in the room. There is a 2.40 m x 2.40 m whiteboard surface on the right-hand wall next to the cupboards. In addition to this fixed whiteboard, there are three other whiteboards with mounts in the room, which can also be used as partitions to separate different work areas. There is a sofa with high backrests at the rear, which can be used as a place of retreat. Another small sofa is located at the front of the room. This furniture configuration offers the possibility of a room-in-room concept: individual groups can meet both acoustically and visually or be separated from each other in order to be able to carry out different teaching and learning scenarios in the best possible way.

To ensure that the DigiPhil offers a lively, dynamic and creative atmosphere, organic materials such as wood or fabric were used as well as round or wavelike designs.

In addition to the 86“ smartboard, the room is equipped with a 55” mobile digital flipchart. The power rail is located on the window side and rear wall of the room for flexible use. This allows various teaching and learning areas to be set up in combination with the furniture. The two cupboards contain technical equipment, e.g. sockets or whiteboard accessories.

Room booking and terms of use

Electronic access authorization is required to use the DigiLLabs@JMU. Please contact the DigLlLab@jMU team (digillab@uni-wuerzburg.de) with a reference to the room you wish to use and the last four digits of your JMU card or token. If you do not have a JMU card, access is also possible via a guest card.

The rooms are automatically locked as soon as the door is locked. Do not forget to take your JMU/guest card with you once you leave the room.

Access to the room doors also gives you access to the cabinets in the room where the technology is located. Here too, make sure you lock them after use. An open door is marked green on the lock, a closed door is marked red.
