Areas of Work
Unit A.2: Human Resources Development at the University of Würzburg aims to maintain and further develop the skills and attitudes of employees, teams, organisational units and the university as a whole . It is geared towards current and future workplace requirements and designs working conditions in a way that increases job satisfaction and the long-term success of employees by enabling them to use their professional skills effectively.
Work areas are derived from this, including from the four strategic goals that are anchored in the HR development strategy for the period 2025 to 2030. The department also addresses other permanent topics such as leadership with its measures and activities.
Leadership & Management
Successful collaboration between professors, academic staff and administrative staff is essential for research, teaching and administration to work well together. Effective leadership ensures clear responsibilities, better communication and a constructive working culture. Personnel development supports this by creating suitable framework conditions and customised offers for groups and individuals . |
Communication & collaboration
The University of Würzburg strengthens cross-departmental collaboration and continues to develop as an organisation by placing a special focus on a culture of respectful interaction. This creates a shared awareness of a respectful and constructive culture of communication, which is systematically embedded as a fundamental attitude in all staff development programmes. At the same time, it forms a central orientation framework for all further education and training programmes - particularly in the area of conflict management. |
Welcome culture & onboarding
A successful start lays the foundation for good collaboration. The university is strengthening its welcoming culture and creating the conditions for systematic, university-wide onboarding. The aim is to provide new employees with good support right from the start - with clear processes, targeted support for managers and various programmes. HR Development develops practical tools and promotes dialogue and networking for a successful start. |
Personnel selection & recruitment
As an attractive employer in the region, throughout Germany and internationally, the University of Würzburg relies on professional and practical personnel selection processes. The aim is to recruit suitable talent for the university, integrate them successfully and retain them in the long term. HR Development helps to strengthen managers in their role and further develop selection processes - for well-founded decisions and good cooperation in an open and welcoming culture. |
Internationalisation
Global perspectives open up new opportunities for collaboration, research and teaching. The University of Würzburg promotes internationalisation through exchange programmes, international partnerships and intercultural events. Do you work in a research-supporting field, would you like to study the topic of interculturality in the workplace more intensively and gain a certificate in the process? As part of the established UniversInternational programme, you can continue your linguistic and intercultural training on site and at a partner university. |
WISNA programme
By establishing tenure-track professorships across the board, the University of Würzburg is opening up attractive career prospects with significantly more planning security for outstanding talents at an early stage of their academic career. Human Resources Development supports the junior professors appointed as part of the federal-state programme for the promotion of early career researchers (WISNA) with tailored formats such as advice, workshops, retreats and peer-to-peer exchanges - always with the aim of effectively supporting and strengthening their qualification phase. |
