Der Lehrstuhl für Ethnomusikologie der Universität Würzburg lädt im Juni zu drei Veranstaltungen zur Musik aus Tansania und aus Madagaskar.

Vom 2. bis 30. Juni 2026 wird im Rathaus der Stadt Würzburg die Ausstellung "Leben mit Wissenschaft: Geschichten aus Mwanza & Würzburg" gezeigt. Das 60-jährige Jubiläum der Städtepartnerschaft Mwanza & Würzburg wird auch mit weiteren Veranstaltungen gefeiert.

Dr. Barnaby Dye (King’s College London / DGAP Berlin) will speak on 15 June 2026 about the dynamics and trajectories of India–Africa relations in the 21st century. The lecture critically examines whether these relations can be understood as over-hyped, a historic success, or an ambivalent development. Dr. Philipp Gieg (IPS / ACCUW) will deliver the introductory remarks.

As part of the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Mwanza-Würzburg city partnership, Prof. Humphrey Mazigo and Stella Mugassa from Mwanza will give a presentation in English on June 18, 2026, to discuss their project aimed at combating the neglected tropical disease schistosomiasis.

On 25 June 2026, 18.00 CEST, Claire Wilby, FCIArb, will speak on "Energy Law and Critical Infrastructure Development in Sub-Saharan Africa". The Open International Lecture is organized by the Research Centre for Infrastructure Law (Forschungsstelle Infrastrukturrecht | Prof. Dr. Markus Ludwigs) at the University Würzburg.

Am 30. Juni 2026 präsentiert Maria Velte (HU Berlin) ihre Forschungsergebnisse im Feld der feministischen Wirtschaftsgeographien im Rahmen des Geographischen Kolloquiums unter dem Titel "Süd-Süd-Globalisierung in Ostafrika: Eine Annäherung an „Social Upgrading” im kenianischen und tansanischen Gartenbau".

From May 23 to 25, 2026, the Africa Competence Center will once again be represented at Europe’s largest and oldest festival for African music and culture – this time in front of City Hall at the Vierröhrenbrunnen. In the University Tent, which has been an integral part of the Africa Festival for more than 15 years, we present a selection of the many Africa-related research projects at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg.

On 7 February 2026, as part of Black History Month Würzburg, a hybrid symposium followed by a concert will take place under the theme "Uniting People Through Sounds: Musical Arts, Inclusion and Cultural Partnerships."
