University Tent 2026
From May 23 to 25, 2026, the Africa Festival 2026 took place – this time in the heart of Würzburg’s city center. The Africa Competence Centre of the University of Würzburg (ACCUW) was represented with the University Tent directly in front of City Hall at the Vierröhrenbrunnen fountain, once again showcasing a selection of the many Africa-related research projects at the University of Würzburg.
The University Tent has been an integral part of Europe’s largest and oldest festival of African music and culture for nearly twenty years. In the tent, ACCUW showcased a range of exhibits, including banners on Würzburg and colonialism, radio astronomy in Africa, the Else Kröner Center Würzburg–Mwanza, and the Botanical Garden. The JMU Alumni Network presented "Voices of African Guest Scientists", highlighting the breadth and diversity of the university’s collaborations with African partners.
Thanks to the University Tent's location in the heart of the city, representatives from various research institutions at the University of Würzburg were able to engage with even more visitors than in previous years. Numerous interested guests stopped by and spoke with members of ACCUW about the exhibition.
We would like to thank all visitors for the many interesting conversations and the Botanical Garden for its generous support and for providing the plants featured in our exhibition.
