IRTG 2991 - Workshop on "Self-assembled Nano Environment" with Guest Visit of Prof. Makoto Fujita

07.05.2026

For one month, the group of Prof. Frank Würthner has the pleasure to host Prof. Makoto Fujita (University of Tokyo) at the Center for Nanosystems Chemistry (CNC) as a Humboldt Research Award winner. Prof. Fujita participated as a guest expert in a workshop of the IRTG 2991 on “Self-assembled Nano Environment” (05/06 May 2026).

On the first day Prof. Fujita gave two lectures for the audience in Würzburg and at IISER TVM: In the first lecture, entitled “Molecular Confinement within Self-Assembled Cages for Unique Photochemical Reactions” he presented various examples from his research that exploit the special confinement of guest molecules in supramolecular cages. In the second lecture, he introduced the “Second Generation Crystalline Sponge Method”, which is considered a game changer for structure elucidation via crystallographic analysis.

During the second day of the workshop the IRTG2991 postdocs Dr. Kazutaka Shoyama and Dr. Rajeev Dubey (Würthner group) as well as the PhD students Mykyta Rachenko (Nowak-Król group) and Dikshita Lama (Pöppler group) presented their research projects in a hybrid setup.
