The picture above shows a photograph of the “Lying Stones” that were “discovered” close to Würzburg in the 18th century. Their story is one of forgery and too much eagerness of scientists to interpret findings in a way that suits their own beliefs.

The “Lying Stones of Würzburg” were used as an introductory example by Dr. Stephan Schröder-Köhne, of the University of Würzburg Graduate Schools, who, on 9th of April 2025,  gave a workshop on Good Scientific Practice (GSP) for the IRTG PhD students. During the four-hour workshop the awareness for the topic of GSP was strengthened and the responsibility scientists bear in this regard highlighted.

It was the first “hybrid” workshop of the International Research Training Group 2991, with the PhD students from JMU Würzburg participating in person and the PhD students from IISER Thiruvananthapuram via video stream.
