Early studies

Information for teachers and examiners

At the beginning of their first semester of early studies, early students receive an introductory event in which they are given all the information they need for the programme. They also have a subject mentor and access to a WueCampus course for early studies, in which all information relevant to early studies can be looked up at any time.

Early students are enrolled as guest students on a semester-by-semester basis (after successfully completing the admission procedure). They receive a guest student card and a guest account. They are not regular students, but are allowed to attend selected courses and take examinations based on BayHIG §77 para. 7, which can be credited towards a regular degree programme upon application once they have obtained their higher education entrance qualification.

In the semesters in which they are enrolled, early students receive a guest account that is linked to their private email address. However, in some IT systems (e.g. in WueCampus, instead of this private e-mail address, one of the form sgxxxxx@uni-wuerzburg.de is visible, which acts as a forwarding springboard).

  • The guest account enables, among other things, a login to WueCampus and the use of the WLAN.
  • It is not possible to log in to WueStudy as a student, only anonymously without a login.

This has the following consequences for events and examinations.

Early students attend the courses agreed with their subject mentor. If necessary, this should have been agreed within the subject.

  • The guest account does not allow early students (similar to programme students) to register for courses in WueStudy. Please consider early students separately if necessary.
  • If you have set up a WueCampus course for your course, early students are not automatically included in the WueCampus course for the above-mentioned reason. However, as they can use WueCampus, they can be enrolled in the WueCampus course manually or enrol themselves (if this is possible and they are given the necessary enrolment key).
  • Early students can research the course information stored in the WueStudy course catalogue and are also shown this.

Early students can take part in examinations (provided that the subject is not subject to admission restrictions). The same rules apply as for regular students who take part in these examinations (in particular with regard to assessment and any preliminary work required).

  • As early students cannot use WueStudy in the student role, they cannot register for examinations via WueStudy. Instead, they will provide you as the examiner with a form "Notification of a module examination taken during early studies", which serves as a substitute for exam registration. Please enter the examination result on this form and send it by internal mail to the subject coordinator for early studies. The form will not be returned to the early degree students.
  • If you only communicate the examination result via the booking in WueStudy and do not offer general access, it would be helpful if you could inform early students separately about the result.
  • Early students take care of the crediting procedure themselves and also receive the necessary information. There is nothing for you to do here.

In addition to the Early Studies programme, JMU also offers the Unitag as a second continuous programme for gifted students.

  • In contrast to the early study programme, participants are selected by the MB office for Lower, Middle and Upper Franconia. The Unitag participants are accepted for one semester, come to the university on Fridays and attend three courses selected by them from a prepared programme. Unlike early students, they cannot take examinations and do not have a subject mentor.
  • From the lecturers' point of view, the same rules apply to both groups when attending courses (guest student status, no student account in WueStudy, guest account for WueCampus).
