Prof. Stefan Bräse and his Chemotion-Team Dr. Nicole Jung and Jana Alpin from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), visited Würzburg for an IRTG 2991 workshop on “Digital Chemistry” (21./22. July 2026).

Suvarna got the opportunity to write about her experiences with her Binational PhD at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Thiruvananthapuram and Julius Maximilians-Universität (JMU) Würzburg in Chemistry World (RSC).

In May 2026, the Center for Nanosystems Chemistry (CNC) hosted Prof. Makoto Fujita (University of Tokyo) for a one-month stay.

For one month, the group of Prof. Frank Würthner has the pleasure to host Prof. Makoto Fujita (University of Tokyo) at the Center for Nanosystems Chemistry (CNC) as a Humboldt Research Award winner. Prof. Fujita participated as a guest expert in a workshop of the IRTG 2991 on “Self-assembled Nano Environment” (05/06 May 2026).

Frank Würthner, a professor of chemistry at the University of Würzburg, receives the Izatt-Christensen Award, the highest international honour in the field of supramolecular chemistry.

It was a pleasure to welcome Prof. Dr. J. N. Moorthy (Department of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur, and Director of IISER Thiruvananthapuram) for a one-week visit at JMU Würzburg.

For her pioneering work on catalytic nucleic acids, the Würzburg chemistry professor Claudia Höbartner has been awarded the Albrecht Kossel Prize by the German Chemical Society.

On January 29th and 30th, 2026, the IRTG 2991 hosted a hybrid specialized workshop on “Theoretical Chemistry with a Focus on Electronic Structure” at the University of Würzburg.

With her lecture on Exploring Functional Landscapes in Molecular Aggregates: Theoretical Methods for Electronic Structure and Property-Driven Design (GDCh Kolloquium Unterfranken, 13.11.2025) CNC Junior Group Leader Dr. Merle Röhr successfully finished her habilitation.

From Oct. 21-25 a large number of scientists from IRTG 2991 attended the 13th Asian and Oceanian Photochemistry Conference (APC) in Kochi, organized by K. George Thomas and his team from IISER Thiruvananthapuram.

Getting Indo-German research projects off the ground: This is the aim of a joint programme of the Indian Ministry of Education and the German Federal Foreign Office. The University of Würzburg is represented with two projects.
