AllSkyCAM installed on the Zugspitze
09/26/2025An AllSkyCAM system was recently installed at the Environmental Research Station Schneefernerhaus on the Zugspitze. The development took place as part of the VaMEx3-MarsSymphony project, which is part of the DLR's VaMEx initiative.
In a future Mars mission, a further development of this camera system could be used in Valles Marineris, the largest canyon on Mars.
The AllSkyCAM system consists of several cameras that together cover the entire sky in the visible wavelength spectrum.
In continuous operation, it assists in the exploration of known objects such as clouds or meteors in the atmosphere, as well as the possible discovery of new phenomena such as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).
AllSkyCAM thus contributes to the research of the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Extraterrestrial Studies (IFEX) at the University of Würzburg.

VaMEx3-MarsSymphony is funded by the German Space Agency at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) with funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). FKZ: 50RK2451A
