The university’s Professional Development department offers a wide range of trainings and other services for all employees. Doctoral candidates and Postdocs are invited to take part in their program

The Career Centre  offers support and training opportunities for students and doctoral candidates who would like to acquire additional professional skills. Find out more about the Career Centre’s offers and events.

SCIENTIA offers personnel development for female scientists at the first qualification levels: the mentoring programme is aimed at (advanced) doctoral students, the PostDoc Programme at young female scientists with a doctorate, and the coaching prepares them individually for upcoming career steps.

Excellent junior female scientists at JMU can apply for the SCIENTIA scholarship programme: It supports women in a transitional phase between two career steps, to initiate third-party funding, to be able to complete a post-doctoral project, etc.

Würzburg University is part of the European University Alliance CHARM-EU. CHARM-EU offers the possibility of in-person and online international exchange as well as research and network opportunities for doctoral candidates with the other member universities in Barcelona, Budapest, Dublin, Montpellier, Utrecht and Åbo. Würzburg University has a worldwide network of partner universities that offer the possibility for international research or teaching stays. Erasmus+ Funding is also a possibility for doctoral candidates. More information can be found at the International Office

The JMU supports these bright minds at every stage of the transfer process - from refining their ideas and applying for intellectual property rights to launching their own companies and connecting with partners in the business community.

 

Alongside the institutes, faculties, and graduate schools that offer speficic courses on academic writing, the Schreibzentrum | Writing Center at the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) offers direct assistance and provides specialized writing support across the academic disciplines. Find out more about the Writing Center at CTL

Diversität³

Together with subject matter experts, the event series on diversity aims to offer new perspectives on diversity within the university environment. Diversity³ is a collaborative initiative hosted by the three universities in Würzburg: the Julius Maximilian University, the University of Music, and the Technical University of Applied Sciences. (mostly in German)

GSiK: Globale Systems and intercultural competence

The GSiK Project at Uni Würzburg conveys intercultural skills and skills in the area of sustainability through an interdisciplinary programme. You can receive a certificate in both areas.

IT-courses at the Technology Centre 

The Technology Centre offers courses in the fields of presentation, data bases, Microsoft Office, statistics, graphic design, programming, digital teaching and more.  

 

KoWinChi Project 

The KoWinChi training programme prepares academic and research support staff at universities and research institutions for effective cooperation with partners in China. Through the programme, participants gain valuable insights into China’s research landscape and higher education system, as well as into innovation system, ethical and cultural aspects of collaboration, funding mechanisms, and legal frameworks. The programme helps participants develop the skills needed to work successfully with Chinese researchers, taking into account the country’s political structures and the specific characteristics of its research system, while also assessing potential risks and opportunities.

Educational Development at CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning)

You are new to teaching? The Center for Teaching and Learning offers instructors at JMU a diverse range of further education programs. The focus is on practice-oriented methods for developing higher education teaching competencies—ranging from the design of courses and the conception and implementation of exams to the supervision and assessment of student work.

 

Professional School of Education (PSE)

The PSE advances the public discourse on teacher training at JMU and offers several courses and workshops, as well as panel discussions, annual forum events or lecture series. (mostly in German) 

 

WueLab: Sustainablity at JMU

The aim of WueLAB is to establish a culture of sustainability at JMU Würzburg and beyond. The WueLAB connects science and pracitce around sustainabilty topics; is a sustainability laboratory and platform for science-based exchange for research, teaching and university operations; stands for the continuation, design and visions of sustainable development; is open to all status groups.

Language Centre 

The Language Centre is a central institution of the University of Würzburg. In this function, it is responsible for the following areas: Cross-faculty, study-related foreign language courses for students of all faculties. Provision of foreign language modules for the key qualification area of the BA and MA degree programs at the University of Würzburg (ASQ pool), for the interdisciplinary area of teacher training programs (FÜG), and as a compulsory elective component in study regulations. Study-related German courses for foreign students, doctoral candidates, academics, and employees of the University of Würzburg, as well as acceptance of the Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH).

 

Certificate Programme: Leadership Skills for Doctoral Candidates and Postdocs  

With this programme the professional development department aims to enhance leadership skills at an early stage in order to prepare doctoral candidates and postdocs for their future career in or outside of academia. 

 

Certificate Programme: "Detecting and preventing abuse of power" 

In a society in which structural inequalities and power imbalances are repeatedly abused, it is crucial to take preventative action. The certificate programme ‘Detecting and preventing abuse of power’ (in German: Machtmissbrauch Erkennen und Verhindern – MEV) offers you the opportunity to take a well-founded look at the background and consequences of abuse of power. It provides you with the knowledge you need to recognise power structures and ensure that organisations deal with this issue responsibly. The certificate programme is open to all JMU students. People with a university degree and relevant professional experience (e.g. teachers from all types of schools) can complete the programme alongside their profession, as can people with or without a university entrance qualification with suitable professional experience (e.g. in a caring, therapeutic or educational profession).

Enrolled doctoral candidates can take part in the programme.
