Cluster for Nucleic Acid Sciences and Technologies

NUCLEATE is the first Cluster of Excellence that is dedicated exclusively to the innovative field of nucleic acids. Its objective is to harness the potential of nucleic acids towards a new understanding of their role in biology and to pave the way into the field of nucleic acid medicine.

Interdisciplinary collaborations will enable NUCLEATE to investigate the function of nucleic acids in biological processes across all kingdoms of life and develop new therapeutic approaches. Ultimately, NUCLEATE aims to become a world-leading center for nucleic acid science and technology.

Joint forces for nucleic acid science

To fulfil the cluster’s holistic concept, the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) as well as the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) and Technical University (TUM) of Munich have joined forces. They are highly complementary and cover a broad range of nucleic acid technologies and research fields.

A new approach to nucleic acid science

NUCLEATE adopts a nucleic acid-centric approach with a novel integrated research agenda that redefines nucleic acids in three dynamic roles: as subjects (Research Area A), objects (Research Area B), and tools (Research Area C).
