Habilitation

Established Researchers taking the traditional path to professorship pursue a Habilitation. The process of Habilitation gives highly qualified individuals the opportunity to independently undertake research and teaching activities and to obtain eligibility for a professorship under the guidance of a mentoring committee and within the time frame agreed upon at the beginning of the Habilitation procedure. In conferring a Habilitation, the conferring body formally acknowledges that the conferee possesses the academic qualification and teaching skills required for appointment to a professorship in his/her field.

The competent faculty is responsible for managing the Habilitation procedure and ensuring that the Habilitationcandidate has an adequate infrastructure and sufficient resources at his/her disposal.

Additional provisions governing Habilitationare set out in the Habilitation regulations of the faculties. These are available for download Amtlichen Veröffentlichungen der Universität Würzburg here.
