Yasmin Gärtner  from the group of Thomas Carell has successfully defended her doctoral thesis at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (LMU). In her project, Advancing targeted siRNA therapeutics through click-chemistry-enabled functionalization, she investigated an important topic with strong potential for precision medicine.

RNA interference (RNAi) is widely regarded as a powerful approach for targeted gene silencing and offers promising perspectives for the development of new therapies. One of the major challenges, however, is the efficient and cell-specific delivery of siRNA-based therapeutics. Yasmin Gärtner’s work addressed this challenge directly by developing a novel click-chemistry-based strategy to functionally optimize siRNA constructs and enhance their selective uptake, for example by liver cells.

We warmly congratulate Yasmin and are happy that she will stay in Munich as postdoctoral researcher. We wish her continued success!
