Students of this course take a structured elaboration of the theme and concept of the learning city-region and how it has become an integral part and initiative of strategic thinking on Adult and lifelong learning. Another dimension of this course will be the argument upon how international organisations relate their interests to learning cities and region, therefore, the concept of the OECD will be compared to that of the UNESCO and the short-lived Learning Region concept of the EU. Also, the course will examine some major programmes and projects in this field having been financed through the European Socrates I-II thematic programmes. Accordingly, students will meet the chang-ing roles of Higher Education Institutions, likewise, the initiative of UNESCO Global Network of Learn-ing Cities with its thematic clusters, PASCAL Observatory and its Learning Cities Network to highlight some concrete examples from practice. Accordingly, students will make use of digital platforms as OpenWueCampus moodle and WueMahara platforms so as to accomplish group-work and analysis of selected topics related to learning cities and communities to reflect to practical examples and di-mensions of global learning city developments in the scope of SDGs.
