Studying with a child

Here you will find information, tips and contacts on the following topics:

In the Chancellor's 2012 circular on the family-friendly university, you will find, among other things, the specifications for facilitating the study situation for students with children.

Since 1 January 2018, the Maternity Protection Act has also applied for the first time to pupils, interns and students at training and study places.

Information on the new Maternity Protection Act at the University of Würzburg can be found in the letter from the Chancellor dated 6 March 2018 and on the pages of the Occupational Safety, Animal Welfare & Environmental Protection Unit.

According to Art. 48 Para. 2 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG), students can be exempted from the obligation to study properly or granted leave of absence on application for good cause (e.g. birth, raising and caring for children).

Information on how to apply for such a leave of absence, as well as related information on deadlines, study and examination achievements can be found on the website of the Student Administration Office.

TheStudierendenwerk Würzburgis the first point of contact for students with children who are looking for childcare. The Studierendenwerk runs its own childcare centre, theStudent Childcare Centre Würzburg. Children from the age of 10 months can be looked after there for between 25 and 45 hours a week.

The University of Würzburg also has its own childcare centre with crèche and kindergarten, the Campus Kinderhaus. The Campus Kinderhaus is a facility run by the Zweckverband evangelischer Kindertagesstätten. Please note: Places in the Kinderhaus are available to all members of the University, but primarily to employees and only secondarily to students.

Childcare costs can be covered depending on your financial situation. You can apply to the City of Würzburg's Department of Economic Youth Welfare for the costs to be covered.

The registration and reservation of all childcare places in Würzburg is organised centrally via the City of Würzburg's parent portal littlebird.

A further offer at the University of Würzburg is provided by the Family Service - theCampus StudiKids. Here, infants and toddlers aged 2-18 months are looked after on an hourly basis.
