PSE welcomes incoming students from Sri Lanka
11/17/2023We greet the two students Madu and Janeesha from Sri Lanka, who are studying Education at the University of Würzburg in the current winter semester. A warm welcome!
Following two student teachers who gained intercultural academic experience at our partner university, the University of Peradeniya in Kandy/Sri Lanka, last winter semester, two students from Sri Lanka are now spending the current winter semester as guests at the University of Würzburg. Madu and Janeesha are studying for a Bachelor of Education degree at their home university in order to become teachers. As part of the PSE's GoTEd project, which is supported by the DAAD in the Lehramt.International Programme, the two students have enrolled for Education and are attending seminars in educational science at our university.
This is their first time in a European country. For them, not only life in Germany (and especially the climate, according to them) is very new, but also the completely different university culture. They have overcome the bureaucratic hurdles so far and can now pursue their studies at the University of Würzburg as newly enrolled students. Madu is already looking forward to using the university library. Janeesha is particularly interested in methods in educational science and is looking forward to the seminar contents.
Janeesha, how were your first few weeks in Germany?
Janeesha: I really missed my parents and siblings during my first few weeks in Würzburg. But with the help of the amazing people I met here and the beauty of many places, I was able to settle into my new surroundings very well. I love Würzburg.
What is different here compared to Sri Lanka?
Janeesha: For me personally, the biggest difference is the climate. But there are also differences in all other areas, for example food and drink, clothing, public transport and education.
The two of them will complete an internship at various schools in Würzburg, where they will support in particular the English teachers in the classroom. They already really like Würzburg as a city and are very much looking forward to getting to know and interacting with their fellow students at the courses.
