Research data management

Research data is an essential foundation of scientific work according to the DFG Guideline on Handling Research Data. It is generated during the research process (e.g. as measurement data, laboratory values, texts, audiovisual information, survey data, objects from collections) or is part of the research results (e.g. methodocial procedures such as questionnaires, software, simulations).

The research data management (FDM) focuses on the handling of research data before, during and after the research process. It covers all steps of the research data life cycle (see figure) from research planning to collecting, processing and analysing data, as well as publishing and archiving the data up to their subsequent use by third parties.

For the scientists of the University of Würzburg, the IT Centre, the University Library and the Research Advancement Centre are pooling their competences.

On these pages you will find information on the most important aspects of RDM, further RDM-related resources, as well as current service offers and news.
