A look into the past: Websites of the University of Würzburg

With the relaunch, we are working on the seventh version of the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg website.

Web design and web development are constantly changing. They reflect the technical possibilities and aesthetic habits of their time. What was considered modern just a few years ago now seems out of date. Nothing shows this more clearly than a look back - at the history of our website.

Timeline: 1997 to the future

1997 - The beginnings

A simple page with little text, no pictures - the Internet was still young, and so was the university website.

1998 - First splashes of colour

A short time later, a little colour is added - but the website remains simple and young.

2003 - First pictures

The design is slowly developing: a few pictures, some colour, but still a long way from modern web design.

2007 - New system in the background

For the first time with sophisticated menus and the new logo - and as a milestone: The entire website now (and to this day) runs on TYPO3!

2011 - Curtain up

More images, clearer navigation and a more modern look - the website is given its characteristic stage.

2017 - The current appearance

The university website is in full brand colour with a clear, three-part layout.

Tomorrow - The next step

The next relaunch is imminent! We are bringing the website up to date and making it fit for the future.
