Project
The LehrLernGarten in the Botanical Garden was founded in winter semester 2010/11 with the aim of offering JMU student teachers more practical relevance. The project was initially financed through student funds. Since then, the project has received several awards and the programme has been expanded. Bachelor students also take advantage of the courses, school classes visit fascinating programmes and teachers use our training courses.
How do you teach specific topics and which didactic methods are suitable for these? In the LehrLernGarten, students gain early teaching experience in dealing with pupils by developing programmes and implementing them in real teaching situations at the Botanical Garden, an extracurricular learning location. The topics go far beyond the "classic" botanical topics. We maintain a wide range of collaborations so that our topics are also relevant for other subjects, e.g. German, Geography and Social Studies.
We work with students in a curriculum-oriented way so that the programmes complement classroom lessons in a practical way. Interdisciplinary teaching and education for sustainable development are important to us here. In all events, the focus lies on "understanding" for both students and pupils. Encounters with original objects, learning with all senses and experimentation are important to us. In this way, grey theory becomes tangible through green practice and is often suddenly completely understandable.
