Semester Kick-Off: Lunch & Learn Talk on “Diversity and Inclusion in Practice”

29.10.2023

Unfortunately, academia is far from having reached (gender) equality and diversity. To address this important topic, we are extremely happy that we could win Birgit Röschert to give an Impulse Lecture on “Diversity and Inclusion in Practice”.

To kick-off the semester, we had our first Lunch & Learn Talk on “Diversity and Inclusion in Practice” last Tuesday.

Unfortunately, academia is far from having reached (gender) equality and diversity. To address this important topic, we are extremely happy that we could win Birgit Röschert to give an Impulse Lecture on “Diversity and Inclusion in Practice”.

In this impulse lecture, we learned about unconscious biases and how they affect diversity. We focused on stereotypes and countering prejudiced thinking in our everyday working life. Based on a sensitizing talk, we also critically assessed our own privileges and how we can use them to advocate for inclusion and support others as an “ally”.

To reach as many of our members as possible this Lunch & Learn talk took place online during lunchtime - Anyone was welcome to “bring” their own lunch!

Afterwards the participants of our coaching "FEMpower Program 2023” had their semester wrap-up session.

You can find the post about the coaching program here

The coaching is an important part of the RTG curriculum and is designed to enable female PhD researchers to grow personally, professionally, and academically. It is a central part of the RTG's mission to provide the best possible support for women in science.

Thank you to Birgit Röschert from the fe:male leadership development Team for this talk to increase awareness of diversity and gain impulses for our own actions and for the continued support within the "FEMpower Program 2023"!
