1. Parental allowance

Parental allowance, parental allowance plus, partnership bonus... There are many options. The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth can provide you with more detailed information.

2. Child benefits

Child benefits are one of the most important benefits for families in Germany. You can find a detailed description of this family benefit on the website of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The application for child benefits can be submitted to the Office of Family Benefits.

3. Bavarian family allowance

The Free State of Bavaria also supports parents whose children are between the ages of 13 and 36 months with a monthly amount of 250 euros, and this amount increases up to 300 euros per month beginning with the third child.If you have applied for parental allowance in Bavaria and it has been approved, this application  will also count as an application for the Bavarian family allowance.

4. State foundation "Help for mother and child"

The state foundation "Hilfe für Mutter und Kind" can provide supplementary benefits for pregnant women and mothers in emergency situations if, in individual cases, the standard social programs such as child benefits and parental allowance are not sufficient enough to cover costs. Expectant mothers must apply before the birth of the child, otherwise it is not possible to apply for this type of support.

5. Funds for maternity leave replacements and bridging employment bans

Applications to this fund can be submitted before the start of maternity leave by the facultyvia the respective faculty management, which should check and confirm the appropriateness of the requested measure to Department 4 - Human Resources Service Center. This department will then examine more favorable solutions in terms of personnel and financesduring a consultation and only then implement the requested measures at the expense of its own funds, which will be designated in advance by the faculties. After one year, the fund's resources will be distributed to the faculties on a pro rata basis for refinancing within the set budget cap. Only completed cases are taken into account; cases spanning more than one year are reimbursed in full in the following year.

 

6. Fund for travel allowances

Applications to this fund can be submitted informally to ”Unit 3.1 – Budget Department“ before the start of the trip. The prerequisite is a conference or congress trip by academic staff who have to take a child up to the age of 3 with them on the trip. Female academics are eligible to apply directly.

At the end of the trip, the additional costs incurred in connection with traveling with the infant (e.g. also for an accompanying person) will be reimbursed on the basis of the regulations of the Bavarian travel expenses law. The relevant original receipts, certificates, invoices, etc. must be submitted to “Unit 3.1“
