Dr. Susann Lüdtke (geb. Grune)

The expansion of global markets and the scientific and technological measurement of the world is inconceivable without the spread of internationally recognised standards. China's growing and state-centred influence on global technical standards is an important driver of this technological, but also geopolitical competition. Although technical standards are generally set voluntarily and cooperatively in order to facilitate cross-border trade and the division of labour, they also influence the distribution of power and control in global markets. How can we explain China's dominance, especially in the latest technologies? Do some countries deliberately pursue the creation of their own or different technical standards? Against the background of a new joint study, the speaker will address this "divergence debate" and outline the impact of divergent technical standards on industry and politics.

The lecture will be held in the Graduate School (Beatrice-Edgell-Weg, 21), Room 00.006.
