Become a Fellow
SCIAS' mission is to create an environment that facilitates and promotes interaction and cooperation between outstanding external researchers and faculty members of the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU).
Internationally renowned researchers from universities or research institutions around the world may be appointed as fellows of the Siebold-Collegium. To allow for a productive atmosphere of collaboration and exchange, fellows generally spend three to twelve months at SCIAS. In exeptional cases, shorter stays are also possible.
During their stay at SCIAS, the fellows work closely with one or more faculty members of the Julius-Maximilians-Universität. Fellows may use their visit to deepen existing collaborations with JMU members and/ or establish new contacts.
International scholars who wish to stay at SCIAS may either be nominated by a member of JMU faculty who acts as host during their visit or send in an individual application. In both cases, please use the SCIAS Registration Form to provide the following information:
- Motivation for a stay at SCIAS
- Host / cooperation partners at JMU
- Short work programme for the fellowship
- Funding arrangements
The selection process is fast and non-bureaucratic. Please be aware, that the funding for the fellowship must be secured in advance of the nomination/ application, e.g. via resources available to the host at JMU or grants provided by funding agencies.
Please send nominations / applications for fellowships via e-mail to the SCIAS office. Nominations / applications are reviewed in a timely manner by the SCIAS Academic Advisory Council. The final decision on the appointment of fellows is taken by the SCIAS Board of Directors in consultation with the University Board.
