eLearning at JMU

The Computer Center at the University of Würzburg operates the learning platform WueCampus, based on the open source software Moodle and available in a revised form. The Computer Center additionally provides its own webpage with information on the topic of “eLearning”.

Since 2007, the cross-departmental project “Blended-Learning”, financed through university tuition fees, has provided all faculties of the University of Würzburg with case-based training modules for exam preparation. The sub-project Case-Train has met with increasing acceptance due to the fact that case-based trainings help educators improve the quality of both tutorials and exams. Information on Case-Train can be found here.

In recent years, eLearning has also become a valuable supplement to established face-to-face teaching methods in the Medical Department at the University of Würzburg, and is now employed in various forms in nearly all courses.

In 2008, in the framework of the Bavarian Competence Network “Teaching in Medicine”, different areas of study were selected for emphasis at the five Bavarian medical departments. At the University of Würzburg, the Competence Center for eLearning was established. Projects previously carried out by the Department of Medicine can be found here.

In surgical education, eLearning is used to support and supplement training in the form of course offerings. Prof. Dr. Germer would like to make learning easier and generate enthusiasm for the field through the use of interesting diagrams, short films, and pictures/photos.
