WueGlobal Conversation Seminars & Tandems

WueGlobal Conversation Seminars

These bi-/multilateral teaching formats, developed by the University of Wuerzburg with one or more partner universities, allow students to participate in constructive and meaningful exchange with peers across the globe. Together with their international colleagues, University of Wuerzburg faculty members have designed a range of innovative concurrent course formats to bring students together for regular shared conversations as well as intensive semester-long collaboration via simultaneous videoconference. Joint presentations and exploration of shared topics, multilateral writing groups and didactic exchange amongst the instructors are hallmarks of the Global Conversation Seminar formats.

WueGlobal Tandems

WueGlobal Tandems offer a variation of the Global Conversation Seminar format focused on promoting student exchange in a more intimate, small-group setting. Depending on the framework of the respective tandem, virtual peer-to-peer communication may either take place asynchronously and/or synchronously. In particular though integration into practical language and cultural history course units, WueGlobal Tandems enable students to communicate in their respective second language on a more advanced level as well as share their own linguistic and cultural competencies with peers in productive horizontal learning experience. Over the course of several weeks within the semester, small groups of two to three students meet to exchange ideas on topics relevant to the corresponding seminar.

While the verbally conducted Tandems mostly take place synchronously and aim at improving communication skills, the written tandems are primarily carried out asynchronously to allow time for mutual editing and feedback rounds on the texts developed within the tandem exchange. All tandems are systematic in approach and overseen by facilitators, but simultaneously leave room for open, mutually enriching dialogue between the respective exchange partners.
