    Scientists have succeeded for the first time in genetically examining the offspring of pregnant coelacanth females. The results show that the young in a brood – in contrast to many other species of fish – are very likely to have all the same father.

    The Julius-Maximilian's University of Würzburg and Lomonosov Moscow State University have signed a cooperation agreement. On the basis of an already well-established collaboration in physics and in the humanities, the academic exchange is going to be intensified in future.


    To trap and digest small animals – the Venus flytrap owes this faculty to its highly specialized leaves. In order to obtain vital nitrogen from its prey, the plant uses a previously unknown mechanism, discovered by researchers from Würzburg, Freiburg and Göttingen.
