Information for Ukrainian Students

As a Freemover, you can enrol in individual courses at the University of Würzburg but you cannot earn a degree.
For the summer semester 2023, the application process is closed.
To be admitted as a Freemover, you need to hold a higher education entrance qualification that provides access to universities in Germany. In addition, proficiency in the German language may be required depending on the subject.
If you are interested in coming to the University of Würzburg as a Freemover in the winter semester 2023/24, please send an email to exchange-international@uni-wuerzburg.de. We will then check if you meet the requirements and will find out if there is a place available for you.
Ukrainian students are welcome to attend the online courses of the Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern (Virtual University of Bavaria). The courses are free of charge. For participation, no enrolment at a Bavarian university is required. The only requirement for participation is to present proof of enrolment from the Ukrainian home university. If you are currently holding a student residence permit (under Section 16b AufenthG) and, as a result of the current situation, no longer have sufficient financial resources to qualify for that type of residence permit, you may be eligible to change to a residence permit under Section 24 AufenthG. Please contact the competent department for nationality issues and foreigner affairs (Ausländerbehörde) to find out if you are eligible for such a change.
The Studentenwerk Würzburg provides free meal vouchers (so-called Freitischmarken) to students in need. Find further information (in German and English) here.
Since 1/6/2022, Ukrainian degree students with a residence permit in Germany as per §24 Residence Act or a corresponding fiction certificate (§ 81 paragraph 5 in conjunction with paragraph 3 or 4 Residence Act) can apply for BAföG (financial support for students). Applications can be submitted to the corresponding Studentenwerk. Further information in German and English can be found on the website of the Studentenwerk.
Exchange students (program students or freemovers) are not eligible for BAföG. However, a refugee with a residence permit or a corresponding fiction certificate can claim social benefits in Germany by applying for a jobseekers support at the job center (SGB II).

The University of Würzburg does not have a student residence of its own. However, if you are enrolled at the University of Würzburg, you are eligible to apply for a room at one of the student residences operated by the Studentenwerk Würzburg (information in German and English). The City of Würzburg also offers accommodation for Ukrainians who are holding a residence permit under Section 24 AufenthG.
The war in Ukraine is a source of great concern for all of us. The current situation is very challenging for students, in particular for those with Ukrainian roots. The University of Würzburg offers support in various ways.

Українські студенти можуть безкоштовно взяти участь в онлайн-курсах Віртуального університету Баварії. Для цього не потрібно бути зарахованим до баварського університету. Якщо ви отримали дозвіл на проживання відповідно до §24, ви можете отримувати пільги відповідно до Закону про пільги для шукачів притулку (біженців). За додатковою інформацією звертайтеся до відповідального відділу соціального захисту.
Якщо ви зараз маєте дозвіл на проживання з метою навчання (згідно з §16b) і ваша фінансова основа для цього дозволу на проживання припинилася через поточну ситуацію, ви можете отримати дозвіл на проживання відповідно до §24. Будь ласка, обговоріть з відповідальними органами імміграційної служби, чи можливо це у вашому конкретному випадку.
Студентська спілка університета Вюрцбурга підтримує нужденних студентів безкоштовними талонами на харчування (так званими талонами Freitischmarken). Додаткову інформацію можна знайти на сайті студентської спілки (доступно німецькою та англійською мовами).
З 1 червня українські студенти денної форми навчання, які мають дозвіл на перебування (Aufenthaltstitel) відповідно до параграфу 24 „Закону про перебування”, або відповідне „Fiktionsbescheinigung” - тимчасове посвідчення легального перебування у країні (пункт 5 параграфа 81 у поєднанні з пунктами 3 або 4 „Закону про перебування”), можуть отримувати BAföG (послуги з фінансування навчання). Заявки можна подавати до відповідного студентського суспільства взаємодопомоги (Studentenwerk). Студенти по обміну (або студенти навчальних програм чи Freemover) не мають права на BAföG. Однак ці групи людей можуть отримати базову страховку для тих, хто шукає роботу (SGB II), за наявністю дозволу на перебування (Aufenthaltstitel) або відповідного тимчасового посвідчення легального перебування у країні (Fiktionsbescheinigung).
