    Research Area:
    Structural Biology, Biochemistry

The Lorenz lab explores the molecular mechanisms of ubiquitylating enzymes including their substrate and linkage specificities, their regulation, their cross-talk with other types of posttranslational modifications, and their potential as therapeutic targets. Studies within the research training group GRK 2243 focus on ubiquitin-conjugating (E2) enzymes and HECT-type ubiquitin ligases (E3 enzymes) with critical links to human cancerogenesis. The Lorenz lab combines structural biology (X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy) with biophysical and biochemical approaches to characterize protein-protein interactions. Cell-based analyses are performed in collaboration with the Eilers and Popov labs.
