"Computer vision": Radu Timofte is an expert in this field - a field that is highly relevant to everyday life. Because whether in smartphones, traffic detectors or medical images: High-quality images have become a matter of course in many areas of our daily lives, and in some situations they are even vital.

Timofte's work has had a lasting impact on research in image super-resolution (SR). SR techniques can be used to increase the resolution of images and thus improve the perception of information. Using sophisticated imaging models and combining them with advanced machine learning techniques, Timofte has repeatedly made outstanding contributions to the field of computer vision.

Currently, Timofte is conducting research at ETH Zurich, where he is a group leader in the "Computer Vision Group." This could change soon, now that the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg (JMU) has been successful with his nomination as Humboldt Professor. If Timofte accepts the professorship - negotiations are currently underway - he could possibly strengthen the Institute of Computer Science at JMU as early as the winter semester of 2021/22.

Radu will join CAIDAS and head its Computer Vision group, if the negotiations are successfull.
