Georg Franz Weber, Professor in cancer research, University of Cincinnati, USA

Georg F. Weber attended Medical School at the Universitaet Wuerzburg 1982 through 1988. Having been committed to medical research since his youth, he attended electives and seminars on research topics (Gundolf Keil, Martin Lindauer) as early as the preclinical years. After graduation, he emigrated to the United States. He conducted research at Harvard University 1990 through 2000, initially in immunology (on the foundation of his doctoral thesis on peritonitis under Hans-Peter Bruch). He made contributions to the understanding of immune responses via redox mechanisms and to signal transduction in T-cells, which leads to proliferation, programmed cell death or immunosenescence. With his discovery of an interaction between the molecules Osteopontin and CD44 in cancer metastases, Georg’s passion for cancer research became rekindled. He has now pursued the mission to study the spread of cancer over more than 20 years, and he has made fundamental contributions to the field.

In his later university years, Georg attended lectures in philosophy (Werner Flach). Since 2013, he has also published research work regarding the analysis and the philosophical implications of complex systems (“chaos research”).

At the advanced stage of his career, Georg strived to achieve immediate impact on clinical medicine as well as extensive international collaborations (hopefully including the Julius-Maximilians Universitaet Wuerzburg).

Georg Franz Weber, Professor in der Krebsforschung, University of Cincinnati USA
