Chair for Cognitive Systems and AI

The professorship for Cognitive Systems and Artificial Intelligence shall deal with the development of artificial intelligence systems based on cognitive principles. Cognitive systems try to emulate the natural interaction of humans with their environment and automatically integrate information from their environment. This can be both real and virtual. Cognitive systems use their experiential knowledge or knowledge of the world, automatically process language and images, and react to the processed information. It is important that the system automatically adapts to the environment and learns directly from it and is not programmed beforehand. Complex cognitive systems require that language and images (machine learning, data science, and computer vision) are processed automatically and that the information obtained is integrated into the system's own existing knowledge base and merged with world or experiential knowledge (common sense reasoning). For autonomous reactions of the systems in experiments, in addition to the processing of the sensory input, a plan must be derived from experience (Reinforcement Learning, Machine Learning), which is then tested, for example, in a virtual environment in interaction with a human.
