    Excellent Ideas

    In order to promote outstanding research, JMU has launched the Excellent Ideas programme in each of its Faculties, offering junior researchers the opportunity to kick-start their academic careers in an esteemed research environment. Are you a junior researcher who has gained experience in an international environment? Have you made a contribution to the international research community while in a postdoctoral position in your field? And now you would like to intensify your research activities, take on more responsibility and work in a dynamic junior research group?

    Take the next step on the career ladder and become the leader of a junior research group.

    We are pleased to offer you an opportunity to conduct independent research in your field, leading your own junior research group with members of your choice (postdoc, doctoral researcher) for a duration of up to 5 years. Salary is governed by the Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst der Länder (Collective Agreement for the Public Service of German Federal States, TV-L). Who are we looking for? Applicants who wish to apply should:

    • have several years of research experience, preferably internationally acquired;
    • have completed their university degrees with high marks and doctorates with distinction;
    • have published in international journals;
    • have a passion for teaching (5 weekly contact hours).

    Apply for the position of leader in one of our 13 junior research groups.

    For an initial period of up to 5 years, JMU provides support for a total of 13 junior research groups across the whole range of disciplines covered by the University. For this programme, the University has identified leading-edge fields of research in all of its Faculties. Have you developed your own innovative approach to research in one of these fields? Please prepare a document describing the issue you intend to address including your research strategy and research milestones and submit this to the University of Würzburg together with your cover letter, CV and a list of your publications.

    Please submit your application - preferably by email as one, single, attached file (no more than 10 Mb) - to the Dean's office of the Faculty you wish to apply to by 31 May, 2017. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office of the respective Dean.
