The University Council

The University Council is composed of:

- the elected members of the Senate

- eight personalities from the areas of Science and Culture, and particularly from Business and Professional Practice. As of October 2011, they are:

The responsibilities of the University Council are defined in Article 26 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act. The University Council

  • decides on the Basic Order and its amendments according to the statutes and by application pursuant to Article 106, section 2 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act,
  • elects the President and may vote him/her out of office,
  • elects the other members of the University's Board of Governors, with the exception of the Chancellor, and may vote them out of office,
  • decides, after the Board of Governors has named suitable persons, on proposals for the appointment of a Chancellor,
  • decides on the development plan of the University as prepared by the Extended Board of Governors
  • decides, on the basis of applications from the Extended Board of Governors, on proposals for the organization of the University into Faculties,
  • gives statements on the establishment, modification, or cancellation of study programs
  • gives statements on the establishment, modification, or dissolution of academic or artistic institutions and of operative units by the Board of Governors,
  • comments on the estimates for the budget or the draft of the economy plan,
  • receives the statement of accounts of the President and may debate on it,
  • ascertains the corporate budget,
  • performs all other responsibilities conferred on it by law or on the basis of a particular Act,
  • is heard before entering into target agreements with the State government, and
  • ascertains whether the objectives defined in these target agreements have been met.
