Academic rankings continuously confirm JMU’s strong performance. In the overall results of the 2016 ARWU/Shanghai-Ranking, the university is among the top 200 universities in the world. Regarding subject areas, JMU’s chemistry is ranked in position 32, physics and medicine are among the top 150, and the life sciences among the top 200 worldwide.
Since 2009, four JMU researchers have received the prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the DFG for outstanding achievements in chemistry, physics, philosophy, and biomedicine. With a total of eleven prize winners, JMU ranks 5th among German universities in the Leibniz Prize statistics. 21 ERC Grants for innovative frontier research have been awarded to scientists at JMU since 2008.
