Professional Skills Program of the Graduate School of Life Sciences

The GSLS aims to provide doctoral researchers with a pathway into a wide variety of careers in the life sciences, enabling them to be prepared for challenging leadership roles both within and outside of academia. In consultation with their thesis committees, they develop an individually tailored, structured training program with the central focus on the scientific project as the core of any PhD.

Leadership Certificate JMU for Researchers

Modular leadership training for scientists with and without leadership responsibility. The program offered by the JMU Research Academy includes coaching, lectures, workshops and e-learning elements. These promote reflection on leadership attitudes and behavior and prepare for leadership roles both within and outside of academia. It is aimed at all interested scientists at JMU.

Annual Meeting in Administration

The annual meeting is a confidential one-on-one talk between employees and their direct supervisors. The dialog partners can discuss the fundamental issues of their joint work beyond the scope of day-to-day business. The dialog based on partnership focuses in particular on the employees' work situation and perspective. 

University Teaching Certificate

With workshops, self-study rooms, teaching workshops, job shadowing and individual consulting services, ProfiLehre supports all teaching staff in acquiring practice-oriented higher education didactic competencies. The open structure of the program gives all researchers the opportunity to network with other lecturers at JMU and the Bavaria-wide ProfiLehrePlus network.

SCIENTIA Mentoring and Qualification Program

We invite international female scientists to network and develop their careers at JMU as part of our new SCIENTIA International Program. Since spring 2023, we have been offering mentoring and training in English-language formats for this purpose. The program starts annually in January, the next call will be in November 2023.

Diversity-Audit

Since February 2022, JMU has been participating in the two-year audit process "Shaping Diversity" of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft. As part of the auditing process, a diversity concept was developed, which will already enter the implementation phase from October 2023. A first milestone is the current establishment of a central University Diversity Management.
